Northern Groups Threaten To Teach Tinubu Lesson Of Awolowo In 1979, 1983 — See Details
There are strong indications that some Northern political stakeholders are not happy with the current administration ahead of the 2027 general election.
Reports emerging on Sunday afternoon say some groups from the North have vowed to teach President Bola Ahmed Tinubu a political lesson similar to what happened to late Chief Obafemi Awolowo in the 1979 and 1983 presidential elections.
According to the groups, they are frustrated over economic hardship and insecurity, and they claim the President has not understood the politics of the North after more than three years in office.
One of the stakeholders was quoted as saying: "President Tinubu never knew the politics of the Northerners, but he should not worry, we are going to teach him the great lesson of his life."
The groups drew comparison with Chief Awolowo, who contested on the platform of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) in 1979 and 1983. Despite being popular in the South-West, he was overwhelmingly rejected in the core North in favour of Alhaji Shehu Shagari of the National Party of Nigeria (NPN), which eventually sealed his fate.
They warned that history could repeat itself in 2027 if the North is taken for granted.
The development comes as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of January 16, 2027, a date some analysts consider crucial in the build-up to the presidential race.
What do you think? Can history repeat itself in 2027?
